Before I dive in, let me share a little anecdote about why I wrote this blog. While speaking with my older brother Cary, he asked me why I constantly butcher the English language with intentional misspellings, and this was the first thing he said when I said “Hello.”
As a highly respected author, he found it puzzling. My response was simple: it’s all about injecting humor and grabbing the attention of unsuspecting readers. While I can’t recall every word I said, I do remember Cary’s blunt response, “That was a@3. You need to fix that sh!t ASAP!”
I couldn’t help but laugh because he had a point. As a visionary professional, I realized the importance of being prepared and avoiding unnecessary blunders. Did Cary lecture me about it? Not entirely, because he didn’t have to. And now, here we are, a few hours later, with this blog. It made me pause and reflect on why I enjoy inventing words and don’t have a problem misspelling them. Beyond the comedic aspect, it’s just something I like to do.
To me, it’s like, why not? After all, everyone else makes up words and uses them completely out of context. Not to mention words like “read” and “read” that have different meanings. But that’s a whole other tangent. My real reason for intentionally misspelling words is to showcase that every word we use is a product of human creation, and society agrees upon its meaning.
During my time at Douglass High School, I often found myself in In House School Suspension, and let’s just say I wasn’t the most motivated student. Instead of doing my assigned work, I flipped through the dictionary. That’s when I discovered words with multiple meanings, allowing me to cleverly insult people without relying on slang or profanity, but still delivering that Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle effect.
In the grand scheme of things, I learned from that experience that there are countless words out there, and it’s impossible for anyone to remember them all. Not to mention the specialized jargon in various fields like medicine and engineering. The list goes on and on. What does it mean, Dr. Tuepenz? Well, nothing, really. Words are just tools we use to communicate socially and professionally as we navigate our day-to-day lives.
