A Kid From The East
Mïstory
People say I talk alot, and I agree. As a result, I have developed a knack for not only talking alot, but writing alot. My writing began in 2008. This year I wrote my first book and also began writing poetry. If I was being technical, I had a short underground rap career from 2003 tp 2008, so I guess that was kind of the start, but either way, I write. It’s just in me to do it, writing that is.
A Kid From The East
Tangent Time With Dr. Tuepenz
As a child, I didn’t grow up with my father, like the majority of the kids from the Eastside of Oklahoma City. But, I was fortunate to have 3 wise Uncles, and 2, well really 3, older cousins to look up to. These men changed my life in ways that I never would have imagined. Hell, I don’t even think they know. When I look at myself as an adult, I can clearly see the path that my life has been on. From this, I see the influences that have helped mold me as a young man.
The man in the picture the with me is my older cousin Lowell Hicks. In the family, we call him “Fuzzy.” Fuzzy taught me how to hu$le. He never told me to commit crimes, but he did warn me of the consequences of doing them. He was always tough on me, but was still super cool, and laid back.
So it was a good balance. I listened to him more than anyone in my family. When I told my mother I wanted to be like him, she couldn’t believe her ears.
To survive the Eastside of Oklahoma City as a youth is a great achievement, and the information he laced me with allowed me to do just that. He taught me how to be a man of my word and to mind my business. And more importantly, get paid. Fuzzy was never a violent person, he was about his money. Watching him fueled my young hu$$le. From cutting grass to selling basketball cards, and writing papers for people in college, I’ve always had a hu$$le.
Fuzzy has watched me grow from a boy to a man, and in that, he knows me in a way I don’t even know myself. From him, I learned how to hu$$le, in everything I do in life. During a conversation with my wife about how I write resumes, she said to me, “Drew, you write resumes like a hu$$la.” I laughed because she is correct, and what’s funnier is I got it all from Fuzzy. When you see me, you definitely see him. As I said earlier, he may not be a perfect role model, but he was exactly what I needed. So thank you my niggå

LEGOS & WORDS
We are all inspired by something, me, I am inspired by my childhood, and Legos were a big part of that. Putting word together is the equivalent to building things with Legos. To me at least. Anyway, feel free to check out my blog for some exclusive content that will disappoint you, and more importantly, waste your time.
