In the song “Dedication” featuring Kendrick Lamar, the Great Nipsey Hussle breaks down the sum of sacrifice both profoundly and concretely. On the road to success, and life in general, there are many sacrifices that must be made in order to get from one destination to another. In the song “Bag Lady” by Ms. Erikah Baydu, the bag she was referring to is a metaphor to describe strong emotions in the form of mental torment from being a participant in an unsuccessful romantic relationship. In order to move forward she had to let that mental baggage go, she had to sacrifice her emotions.
Every time I hear the song “Dedication” my mind immediately turns into a chalkboard with words and math equations. Since we are all “woke,” we understand that the world works mathematically through the science of metaphysics. Let me state that I am not the first to see this meaning in the song, but I know my observation is a great contribution to the culture. What Nipsey did is summarize what sacrifice looks like to help others gain an understanding of what is required. For success to occur things have to add up. In this equation we have the following factors; Dedication (D), Hard Work (HW9, and Patience (P9) which gives us “The Sum of Sacrifice” (TS2). Each of these words has equations attached to them but if we just look at the meaning of each and keep it simple as a pimple, we can easily understand the significance of the words and how to properly apply them in our life.

Dedication (D). In order to get something done you need to posses a natural dedication to it. You can’t force it because if it isn’t for you, it isn’t for you. Look at what you dedicate your time to and see if your actions align with your goals. If they don’t call an audible and keep playing, but at all times be dedicated to something or you find yourself doing anything.
Hard Work (HW2). When people think about hard work they tend to focus on the hard part. The hardest part of hard work is getting started. While the tasks may be tedious and challenging, making small moves here and there will benefit one in the long run. In order to get ahead there are no real shortcuts and to do so, one must prepare to work hard to keep, maintain, and build whatever it is.
Patience (P9). We are all vulnerable to unfavorable situations that cause us to lose our patience, and in some cases self-control. Patience is the key to this equation in that in order to stay dedicated to hard work you must be very patient. Patience comes from trust which comes from love. Not the emotional type, the type of love that just is. If you truly desire to doith a thing then you should love the process, trust the process, and be patient as phücc.
Now, the manner in which this equation is constructed goes against general algebraic principles, which is fine. I’m no mathematician but understand how numbers work and I can see how chyt adds up or doesn’t. When you think about driving to the store, what comes to mind? The road, traffic, time of day, alternate routes? Driving or going somewhere requires sacrifice in the form of time and energy. The reason people are successful, and others aren’t is because some aren’t willing to sacrifice the things hindering their forward progress, or they lack information which leaves them constantly driving around the same block trying to find their destination. Either way, they are dedicated to it. Where you dedicate your time will determine if it was beneficial for you as time passes. If we broke this down in terms of economics, sacrifice is seen as the opportunity cost. With the amount of rich information available it is important that we are dedicating to something worthy of our time. But, at the end of the day do you, just be at peace with the results and yourself. Remember what the Great Nipsey has shown us through his living and be prepared to sacrifice.
